And he ordained `amad (aw-mad') to stand, in various relations (literal and figurative, intransitive and transitive) him priests kohen (ko-hane') literally, one officiating, a priest; also (by courtesy) an acting priest (although a layman) -- chief ruler, own, priest, prince, principal officer. for the high places bamah (bam-maw') an elevation -- height, high place, wave. and for the devils sa`iyr (saw-eer') shaggy; as noun, a he-goat; by analogy, a faun -- devil, goat, hairy, kid, rough, satyr. and for the calves `egel (ay-ghel) a (male) calf (as frisking round), especially one nearly grown (i.e. a steer) -- bullock, calf. which he had made `asah (aw-saw') to do or make, in the broadest sense and widest application |
